Android 11 is the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, which is available first for select devices such as the Google Pixel. As usual, this latest update brings a number of new things, whether it’s improvements from the previous version or a completely new one.
While there haven’t been any major breakthroughs this year, Android 11 still comes with some pretty cool new features. Curious? Here’s his review.
- Built-in screen recorder
With this feature you don’t need a third-party screen recorder app because it’s readily available. This new feature can be found in the Quick Settings panel, but to bring it up, you need to tap the “pencil” icon and then drag and drop “Screen Record” anywhere you want in Quick Settings.
When used, this feature will display a warning that the recording will also record sensitive information such as passwords and payment details. For other things, you can also disable or enable audio recording and display touch markers on the screen.
2. Separate message notification
Android 11 fixes the issue of messaging notifications that were previously stacked together with other unimportant notifications. Through neater notifications, now notifications from SMS or messaging applications such as WhatsApp will be separated and placed in the Conversations section.
In addition, you can also mark multiple notifications from one or more apps as priority. But if you don’t want notifications from messaging apps to enter the Conversations section, you can easily delete them via Settings > Apps & notifications > Conversations.
3. Bubbles
If you use Facebook Messenger, you must know about the bubble-shaped icons called Chat Heads. Well, a feature that lets you quickly get into a conversation is present in Android 11 under the name Bubbles. Just like Chat Heads, Bubbles belonging to Android 11 can also be shifted to the right or left side of the screen.
When Bubbles is tapped, it will bring up a small conversation bar which saves you from having to close any other apps you might be using at the time. You can also choose which conversations to attend via Bubbles or disable Bubbles entirely in Settings.
4. Smart home control
With smart home devices becoming increasingly popular, Android wants to make it easier for you to access them. Android 11 takes advantage of the empty power menu, with quick access to smart home devices connected to your phone.
To access it, you just need to press and hold the power button, then a list of connected smart home devices will appear in the form of a control panel. From there, you can immediately do things like open the door, change the brightness of the lights or adjust the temperature of the thermostat.
5. More licensing options
Permissions on Android are very important and Android 11 provides more options for that. Now when the permissions bar appears, there will be a new option that is Only this time. If you select that option, Android will only grant the associated app permissions until the app is closed. When it’s no longer open, the associated app won’t be able to use that permission without asking again.
Not all permissions support this option, but some important ones like location, microphone and camera do. Plus, now Android can also automatically remove all permissions from certain apps if you haven’t used them in months.
